Vagus Nerve Stimulation

(VNS) Therapy

Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic, treatment-resistant depression (TRD) — typically considered when other approaches such as medication, talk therapy, TMS, and Spravato® have not provided lasting relief.

The treatment works by sending gentle electrical signals to the vagus nerve, a key pathway between the body and brain that helps regulate mood and emotional balance. Over time, these signals can help retrain the brain’s mood circuits and provide long-term stability.

• Severe, long-term depression that hasn’t responded to multiple medications and therapies
• A psychiatrist’s recommendation for advanced neuromodulation

1️⃣ The Device

A small implant, placed beneath the skin near the chest, connects to the vagus nerve in the neck.

2️⃣ The Signals

Gentle pulses are sent to the vagus nerve, which carries those signals to mood-regulating areas of the brain.

3️⃣ The Response

Over time, this steady stimulation helps normalize brain activity and improve long-term mood resilience.

Step 1: Evaluation & Eligibility

Our psychiatrist performs a comprehensive review to determine if VNS is clinically appropriate.

Step 2: Referral & Implantation

The device is implanted by a specialized surgeon in a short outpatient procedure.

Step 3: Activation & Adjustment

After two weeks, the device is activated and adjusted to your optimal comfort level.

Step 4: Ongoing Care & Monitoring

We continue long-term follow-up visits to monitor progress, make medication adjustments, and ensure you’re supported every step of the way.
